Autoresponders & aMember
Here’s a question about Autoresponders that I received the other day and thought I’d share my response here in case anyone else had the same question.
Q: It would be nice to be able to send an email from aMember or a help system through 1AutomationWiz. Is there a way this can be done?
A: Basically, what an autoresponder does is pretty simple.
1) An email request gets sent to an autoresponder address. Now all autoresponder’s have an address, by this I mean an email address, not an ip address.
2) When the autoresponder receives the incoming email request, it triggers the system to respond/reply to that sender with whatever content you’ve added to the autoresponder system.
(I know this is first grade stuff, but please put up with me here for a minute.)
Now once you understand this basic premise it is pretty easy to see that the INCOMING email request can originate from pretty much anywhere you’d like; a web form, an help desk, a form in aMember, or even a hard coded submit request like we do with our PC Tattletale and Master Site Manager software titles.
(One is a desktop software the other online. So you can see this technique works regardless of where the email request is coming from)
It works like this. When the customer registers PC Tattletale for example, the software has a snip of code it in that reads the registration info, parses out the name and email of the user and sends that off to a 1AW autoresponder.
The 1AutomationWiz autoresponder “sees” an AR request coming in, so it responds / replies with the content we’ve already added to the AR sequence.
In this case, the 1AutomationWiz autoresponder sends the customer their registration info like username and password.
Make sense?
The bottom line is that it should be pretty easy to do for any system.
Think of it this way:
An autoresponder is a robot.
The mail function of aMember is a robot.
Instead of having a live person send an email to a robot (your AR), what you have is one robot sending mail to another robot .
That’s true automation!
